MIC MYERS - INTERVIEW

Matt Racks: The rap game is all about paying dues and we understand that you've been rapping, recording, and preforming since the age of 11, how did you get your start?

Mic Myers: My brother Touch from OG Sick Flicks got me started in the game. He was doing photo shoots for artist like Cypress Hill and Psycho Realm at the time. I remember telling him I wanted to rap, So he ghost wrote my first couple tracks. By age 10 i was writing my own bars. Got signed to an indy label when I was 11.

Matt Racks: What was the very first venue you preformed at and how old were you?

Mic Myers: First venue i ever performed at was The Grand Olympic Autotorium. The Show was Aztlan Fest 2001. I was only 11.

Matt Racks: Your debut album "On Campus" was released on Realizm Records which is known as a politically charged label what prompted the change to Kush House Records?

Mic Myers: For me it was just a time for change. I spent 8 years on Realizm, paid my dues, so I wanted to go and see what else was out there. Kush House was local to me, so it was easier for me to go record every day.

Matt Racks: Your signature look seems to consist of all green everything and is catching on throughout the industry...how did this style come about?

Mic Myers: I adopted the "All Green Everything" after signing to Kush House. Green is the color of Money and Kush. Surround yourself with Green, Make Green. That's my philosophy.

Matt Racks: The world knows you as Mic MC, Mic Myers and Mic Mota...is there an origin to your rap name and aliases that you can share with our readers?

Mic Myers: I've had the name Mic MC since 5th Grade, originally it stood for Metaphorically Intelligent Child Moving Crowds. But it later on took a different meaning, we dropped the "Child" to "cypher". You will hear Mic MC on some real hip hop shit, or on some trap shit, or even on a track for the females. Mic Myers came about when I signed with Kush House. Mic Myers is the Angry Side of me that I unleash on tracks from time to time. I grew up watching lots of classic horror films like Phatasm and Halloween so the whole Mic Myers thing kinda stuck to me.  Mic Myers is on that M.O.B. shit, and by that I mean Mota Over Bitches. Mic Mota is my Alias in my Group "La Mota Nostra". Mic Mota is on that Drug Shit, so is Mic Yeskabar.

Matt Racks: You've been blessed as a young artist to work with many Veterans in the game...please drop some names on us.

Mic Myers: Son Doobie, Chino Xl, Swifty McVay of D12, Tha Realest, YG Hootie of Brick Squad, Danny Diablo, Mello Man Ace, just to name a few...

Matt Racks: Many latin rappers get locked into this "lowrider/car show rap" genre how did you escape that fate?

Mic Myers: I think the reason is because I always classified my music as "Hip Hop" and nothing else. I got respect for all types of Hip Hop tho. I grew up listening to it all!

Matt Racks: We know that your work ethic is as strong as the kush you smoke, how often do you write/record?

Mic Myers: I write and record every day, that's a must. There's a lot of competition now days, so I always gotta be on my "A" Game. Thats why I got my next 10 projects already written!

Matt Racks: What is your favorite kush strain?

Mic Myers: Mic Myers OG

Matt Racks: What 3 artist would you like to collab with in the future?

Mic Myers: There's so many people I'd like to collab with but if I had to narrow it down, it would have to be French Montana, 2 Chainz, and Meek Mill.

Matt Racks: I recently downloaded La Mota Nostra MOB Vol. 1 (which I highly recommend)...tell us about this side project.

Mic Myers: La Mota Nostra is Myself (Mic Mota), Chuck Taylor, and Madogg. This was our first release as a group. We kept collabs to a minimum on this project because we wanted to keep it only the close knit crew like "The Psycho Realm" did on their early projects. La Mota Nostra is on that Sick Side, M.O.B., hustler Music. There will be a MOB Vol. 2 dropping in 2013 for free download, then our debut album in 2014. Lookout for that!

Matt Racks: Who are some of the producers you've worked with?

Mic Myers: Scoop De'Ville, Purps 808 Mafia, Mr Kooman.

Matt Racks: Where can our readers purchase or download your music?

Mic Myers: KushHouse.com or by searching "Mic MC" on datpiff.com

Matt Racks: I've heard many rappers have rituals before they sit down and work...what does a day in the studio look like with Mic Myers?

Mic Myers: I have to smoke some Kush before i write. i haven't written sober since I was 14. its just not the same. when I'm faded, I can get lost in the beat and go cray with my word play. I'm never just working on one song. I'm usually working on 20 songs at a time. If I get stuck on one, I move on to the next one, and revisit the other one later. I usually need to drink a Monster or 2 so I can turn up in the booth too! I record at least 3 songs a day.

Matt Racks: Your jewerly collection is off the chain, no pun intented...is the Hulk your signature piece?

Mic Myers: Sure is, Hulk is on his all green everything and smashes on competition like me.

Matt Racks: I can only think of 3 camps that reign supreme in the 420 community...Kush House, KMK, and Cypress Hill how does it feel to be a part of this movement?

Mic Myers: Its dope! I grew up listening to Cypress Hill so to be put in the same category as them is definitely an honor. Now we all rocking shows together, I'm truly blessed.

Matt Racks: I've heard several trap style tracks that you have recently recorded...is this a new avenue that you are exploring?

Mic Myers: Yeah man, I like making music that people can Turn up to! My All Green Everything Mixtape is my first Trap Release, that drops 3/24/13! Its Gonna be the most turnt up mix tape of the year! y'all got my word on it! Also my group "Kush Boys" is on that trap shit too! Our first release "The Trap Files" Drops 4/20/13.

Matt Racks: If you could blaze out any one individual, who would that be and why?

Mic Myers: My Intern, cuz the kid don't smoke lol.

Matt Racks: You have a signature sound, color, pendant and even kush strain, whats next for Mic Myers?

Mic Myers: Next I'm focusing on my clothing line, the launch of micmyersog.com, and my online show! Lookout for it all!!!

Matt Racks: What can you tell us about the Rapper and the Slasher?

Mic Myers: Mic MC is the Rapper and Mic Myers is the Slasher. The Rapper and The Slasher is a Mixtape I will be putting out that show's the best of both worlds!
