JAKE ROUSH - INTERVIEW

Matt Racks: How did you land on the name Jake Roush or is that your govt?

Jake Roush: It's my given name...thank God its a name that works to use as a producer, really simple and original.

Matt Racks: As a West Coast producer who have been some of your influences?

Jake Roush: I don't really have any specific influences, I have an ear in all areas of music, West Coast, East Coast, Dirty South, Bay Area, whatever catches my ear.

Matt Racks: What got you started making beats and when was that?

Jake Roush: A friend of mine gave me fruity loops 7 back when I was 18, I did'nt ever mess with the program or even consider making music until I was 23 years old. It was funny because I was sittin in my room listening to a Wiz Khalifa song and I turned on the program and tried to kinda copy the song and ever since then I've been teaching myself how to make music.

Matt Racks: If you could collaborate with any other producer who that be and why?

Jake Roush: I would love to collaborate with lex luger of BSM. I got the 808's idea from him really. Once I heard him he made me wanna make heavier style beats or at least beats with more bass...so I guess you can say he was one of my influences. Also I would like to collab with Purps of 808 Mafia...I respect everything about his music, he is a true producer and one producer that is doin big things.

Matt Racks: What artist have you produced for?

Jake Roush: I have produced for Chuck Taylor, Mic MC, Analyze Jones, EMT, Fire all of Kush House and a few local artists.

Matt Racks: All producers seem to have a signature style, what can we expect from a Roush beat?

Jake Roush: You can expect ALOT of BASS and hard-hitting snares/claps also you can feel the emotion I put into my beats, weather it be happy, sad or just plain fun.

Matt Racks: Would you rather lease or sell your beats?

Jake Roush: I don't have a preference, I like to hear different artists on the same beat so thats why leasing a beat would be cool and of course selling a beat is always good cause you make more money that way...my ultimate goal is to get to a point where im signed to a label.

Matt Racks: The world knows you as a Hip-Hop producer but do you dable in other genres as well?

Jake Roush: I have always been centered in making Rap music, that's my passion, but yea every once in a while I'll switch it up and try R&B or Dance. I'll actually be working on a Rock project with a good friend in the near future so I'll keep you posted.

Matt Racks: How would you define a "Wack" producer or beat?

Jake Roush: I think what defines a "wack" producer is one that always comes out with the exact same sound and doesn't ever do something different in a track...just not open to new sounds. the rap game today in my opinion is repetative beat making, all beats are sounding the same and that motivates me even more when I'm making a beat.

Matt Racks: Name 3 artist you would never work with?

Jake Roush: Honestly, I'm open to working with any artist because that would give me a chance to give the artist a new sound to work with. I hate hearing good artists on garbage tracks...no bueno lol

Matt Racks: The Rap world is 420 friendly is this indicative of producers as well?

Jake Roush: I think its really common for producer's...as for me it is not, I have been making music for the past 6 months with a clear head, really focused.

Matt Racks: Where can people hear or purchase your beats at?

Jake Roush:  soundclick.com/jakeroush

Matt Racks: What does Jake Roush have planned for 2013?

Jake Roush: My plans are to move to Santa Monica with my family and attend the Art Institute of Los Angeles and continue learning more of the engineering side and recording of music...also to be recognized as a Rap producer from artists and produce for major artists.

Matt Racks: Trap music has taken the world by storm this past year, do you make trap beats?

Jake Roush: Yes, Trap beats, I like to have fun with because there are almost no limits when makin a Trap beat, it's kind of a time where I can go all out and use tons of samples, make crazy snare rolls, crazy high hat patterns, alot of energy is put into Trap beats and should get an energetic response from the listeners as well.

Matt Racks: What do you use to make beats?

Jake Roush: I use Fl studio XXL Producer Edition, Pro Tools 10 and an M-Audio midi keyboard 49 synth action keys.

Matt Racks: You essentially create something from nothing, whats your process for doing that?

Jake Roush: When I'm going to make a beat, I already know what sound I wanna make and how heavy the clap should be or what pattern the hats will be, I do come up with different ideas as the song comes along but ultimately going into a beat, that is the sound I was already planning to come up with.

Matt Racks: Beats are constantly evolving much like rap music...where do you see it going in the next 5-10.

Jake Roush: I see myself on a record label working with major artists collaborating and producing artists from all over the U.S. not just the West Coast, ultimately being happy and content with my music career.
Matt Racks: Social media has obviously made it easier for artist to network with each other but has it also had a negative impact?

Jake Roush: Social media to me is a great way to network, without it I would never have worked with the artists that I do now...there hasn't been a negative impact for me, well not yet at least but i'm sure a lot of producers and rappers have had their "problems" big and little.

Matt Racks: Is it ok for a man to drive a Panomera?

Jake Roush: I think if i had a Panamera it would be okay.

Matt Racks: What does Jake Roush bump in the whip?

Jake Roush:  Maybach Music, BSM, Kush House Records, to name a few.

  1. I have been browsing online greater than 3 hours these days, yet I by no means discovered any fascinating article like yours. It's lovely value sufficient for me. Personally, if all website owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you probably did, the web might be much more useful than ever before. all of craigslist
