PURPS - INTERVIEW

Matt Racks: We have a new generation of readers that have grown up on Purps On The Beat...How long have you been making beats for and what got you started in the game?

Purps: I have been making music since I was 12, you know just playing guitar and writing music with my friends in School. But then Around 16-17 I Started getting into Rap/Hip-Hop and I started actually making BEATS. I sold my first beat within 6 monthes and it's been history ever since.

Matt Racks: The world knows you as "Purps On The Beat" 808 Mafia Producer, What can you tell us about the 808 Mafia?

Purps: 808 Mafia was started by Southside back in the begining of 2011, I was doing alot of work with Bricksquad and Southside & I always vibed musically so when it was time to recuit producers I was one of his first choices. Expect HUGE things to come from 808 Mafia , We have a ELITE roster of producers who are working day & night to provide you with QUALITY production of any Genre. I am vary proud to be part of this movement!
Matt Racks: Brick Squad Monopoly has hit songs that are heard across the globe, how does it feel to be a part of that success?

Purps: Sometimes I get tears of joy because it's that unbelieveable. The movement is so strong and the crowds at the shows keeps getting bigger and bigger. I see all types of fans, all races, all ages, all getting TURNT up to the music we love to make.

Matt Racks: Your Producer credits are longer then Lindsey Lohans rap sheet, please tell our readers a few artist that you have produced hits for?

Purps: Waka Flocka, Jamie Foxx, Gucci Mane, NewBoy, Tyga, 2Chainz, KidInk, AlleyBoy, Freddie Gibbs just to name a few.

Matt Racks: You have a large following of upcoming producers that look up to you, what advice would you give an upcoming producer?

Purps: Dont EVER STOP and dont make music just for the money. Money comes with hard work and that's all it takes to be succesful. Patience and perseverance. Keep elevating and stay humble.

Matt Racks: I know there has been alot of speculation regarding your name, how did "Purps" come about?

Purps: HAHA it's a funny story, one day I got in a fight in middle school and I ended up with a big ol PURPLE eye so everyone was calling me "Purps". The name stuck. Also I came into this world with a PURPOSE.

Matt Racks: The rap game is currently saturated with upcoming artist, what do you look for in a new rapper before producing for them?

Purps: If any of my production suits them, I don't like to just send beats to anyone. I'm kinda picky with my instrumentals. I want my production to make the artist reach a whole new level of creativity.

Matt Racks: Are there any upcoming artists you're working with that we should look out for?

Purps: I don't want to say any names yet because we are still workin', lets make it a surprise. Just know I will only put out QUALITY MUSIC.

Matt Racks: For our readers who don't know please tell us about L.O.B. (Legion of Boom) ?

Purps: Legion Of Boom is a production I started to help the up & coming producers get a chance to get heard. I am still in the works of setting it up and picking the right producers.

Matt Racks: 2012 was a big year for you, what were some of your biggest accomplishments this year?

Purps: Working with Jamie Foxx was CRAZY!!! He is a really talented musician and real humble, also doing a song with Gucci Mane and working with 808 Mafia and BSM.

Matt Racks: What does a day in the life of "Purps" consist of?

Purps: I wake up and go thru emails and answer them, then send beats to my clients, then I either hit the studio all day with an artist, make beats, or @ a music video supporting artist I work with or if it's my day off I'll just kick it with my friends.

Matt Racks: What 3 artist would you like to work with in the future?

Purps: Hmmm Idk , That's a tricky question.

Matt Racks: All the top producers seem to have a signature sound, what can we look for in a Purps beat?

Purps: I like to have synths and some kind of live instrumentation going with BIG DRUMS!

Matt Racks: So we survived 2012, what are your plans for this year?

Purps: Work harder then I have ever before and help those around me.

Matt Racks: What do you use to make beats?

Purps: A midi keyboard hooked up to my computer running FLStudio with endless amounts of virtual instruments, then I might add some live guitars.

Matt Racks: You recently released an instrumental album "Product of Los Angeles", how has L.A. inspired you and where can our readers cop this?

Purps: All over the internet just Google "Purps Product of Los Angeles"

Matt Racks: How does someone go about contacting you or aquiring your production?

Purps: By hitting up my management @ PurpsManagement@gmail.com or hit my Twitter up @ www.twitter.com/itspurps FOLLOW @itspurps Also www.itspurps.com is my website.

Matt Racks: Where do you see hip hop in 5 years?

Purps: Hopefully more musical and more of the live element of music, we need to bring back the band element. I see it where each artist has a live band with them. That would be amazing!

Matt Racks: Leasing or buying beats, can you break this down for us?

Purps: Leasing means you get you use the beat for promotional use only. Producer still owns full rights & can sell it EXCLUSIVELY to anyone they want, whenever. Buying a beat EXCLUSIVELY means you now can now publish it and you have rights to use the instrumental for your album/single. An Agreement between artist & producer so no one else can use that paticular instrumental.

Matt Racks: If you could set up your own Celebrity Death Match what 2 Rappers would you put in the ring?

Purps: Drake and Chris Brown. hahahahahah
